Jones Hall 102

Trinidadian novelist, playwright, short-story writer, and winner of the 1997 Commonwealth Writers Prize, Earl Lovelace describes the topic of the Caribbean space as follows: “There is a sense in which we approach the task of addressing the Caribbean as if it is only the technology and expertise we bring that matter. Often, we fail to see that the landscape is not just the natural geography, but the history and experiences, struggles and dreams that people have in the space.  And that it is only in responding to the full landscape of history, hopes, dreams, disappointments and triumphs embedded in the space that we begin to produce an original address as a civilization to the business of reconstructing the space we have met.
